My Startup Ideas from this Week

  • Digital Memories CoProblem: keeping physical goods just for “the memories” that don’t serve an actual function is an unsustainable practice. Stuff sucks, memories don’t.Solution: a company or app that turns these sentimental physical goods into 3D digital memorabilia (replicas). Keep the memories, not the goods.

  • Conveyor Belt Airport Drop Off SystemProblem: airport drop off areas have way too much traffic and are highly inefficient. Solution: a conveyer belt system that keeps traffic moving, while allowing people and bags to be dropped off.

Concepts I’m Thinking About

  • Crazy Idea Framework - when you encounter a crazy idea, ask yourself these two question: (1) Is the person explaining the idea reasonable? (2) Is the person explaining the idea credible in the relevant domain? “If the answer to both of these questions is yes, you should take the idea seriously, as it may be an asymmetric bet on the future” (source: Sahil Bloom on Paul Gram’s framework)

  • Line Length Paradox - have you ever gotten in a long line and realized that no one gets in line after you? For some unexplainable reason, the line stops growing, and you’re at the end of it. Well, I introduce you to what I’m calling the ‘Line Length Paradox.’

  • You Don’t Actually Hate Reading and Writing - the majority of people who claim to hate reading and writing don’t actually hate reading and writing. They hate what they’re being forced to read and/or what they’re writing about. Trust me, I know.

  • Complainer vs. Problem Solver Framework - one type of person approaches a situation with the mindset of, "How can I make this Work?" Another type seems to approach each circumstance with the mindset of, "What are all the reasons this wouldn't work?" Be the problem solver, not the complainer (idea credit: Emmanuel Fonte).

  • The “Hell yeah” or “No” Framework - If you’re not feeling “hell yeah!” then say “no.” Commit fully or don’t commit at all (idea credit: Derek Sivers).

Cool Startups I Found

  • SpinLaunch - built a kinetic launch system that delivers objects to space by spinning the object and then shooting it to space without rockets/fuel

  • Veeve - created shopping carts with self checkout machines built in

  • Invintory - the ultimate wine app to track your wine cellar, find your bottles, and bring your collection to life

Cool Websites I Found

  • wappalyzer.com - identifies what technologies were used to build a website

  • axiom.ai - browser bots that automate website actions and repetitive tasks on any website or web app

  • podcast.ai - generates complete original podcasts with conversations using AI voice deep fakes

Quotes I Came Across

  • "I don't want to get to the end of my life and find that I just lived the length of it. I want to live the width of it as well." - Diane Ackerman

  • "Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius, and it's better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring." - Marilyn Monroe

  • “If an idea is true, criticism will not destroy it, but strengthen it.” - James Clear

Facts I came Across

  • 1.2% of artists earn 90% of Spotify's royalties. 3% of creators earn 90% of YouTube's revenues (Source)

  • The typical lifespan of a $1 bill is just 22 months (Source)
