My Startup Ideas from this Week

  • Source Tracker ProProblem: when done properly, attributing sources for a research paper is difficult and tedious. Solution: a browser extension that tracks the source of information from when it was first read on a website to the final draft of your research paper using meta data.

  • Health Trend TrackerProblem: no one is able to accurately answer the doctor’s question: “so when did the symptoms start…I don’t know maybe last week, last month, last year.” This makes it difficult to see trends and patterns in the development of an illness.Solution: an app that makes it easy to log health data (e.g. the date your runny nose started or the first day your heel started hurting), so you don’t have to remember when certain illnesses started.

Concepts I’m Thinking About

  • Framework for Building Startups - the process of building a startup is basically just hiring great people and figuring things out together as a team (source).

  • Solutions to Internal Problems - there are no external solutions for internal problems. We search around for answers to our problems but overlook the fact that they are within us.

  • Momentum & Perfection - momentum is more important than perfection (source: Steven Wise). Once the ball starts rolling downhill, it will smash anything in its way.

  • Framework for Job Security - you're not paid for how hard you work. You're paid for how hard you are to replace. Make yourself irreplaceable.

  • Working Until Burnout - what if the Monday to Friday 9-to-5 work schedule wasn’t the best schedule for self-employed individuals? Youtube millionaire Mr. Beast recently revealed his new type of working schedule that could work for some people - working constantly until you lose motivation and then taking some days off.

Cool Startups I Found

  • Liquid Death - canned water company valued at $700 million with outstanding branding

  • Vino Vest - invest in vintage wines like stocks

  • Typhur - building the world’s first all-in-one sous vide (vacuum-sealed meat cooking method) appliance made for home kitchens

  • TheRounds - get everyday cooking essentials delivered in refillable bottles that you send back

  • GatherAI - the first software-only autonomous inventory management platform for modern warehouses using drones

Cool Websites I Found

  • jimpl.com - uncover hidden metadata (e.g. location) from your photos or delete the data entirely

  • fontjoy.com - font pairing made simple

  • boomy.com - create original songs in seconds, even if you've never made music before

Quotes I Came Across

  • “When intuition fails, do your research.”

  • “Here's the number I used to win the lottery” – Entrepreneurs giving advice (from Andrew Wilkinson)

  • “Bite of more than you can chew. You can figure out how to chew later.”

  • “When you get the money, the only thing you wanna buy is time.”

  • “Do not confuse things that are hard with things that are valuable.”

Facts I came Across

  • It costs 2¢ to make a penny and 7¢ to make a nickel (Source)

  • In 2018, the TSA reported collecting $960,000+ in loose change at airport security (Source)
